The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.

Ballinglen, Ballycastle, Ireland.

This particular series came from my first experience of Ireland. It was familiar to me in a way beyond description. Surprising, given I had never been there. Not so surprising given that I come from Irish heritage.  By eliminating descriptive detail from the process in these works, I was able to watch color, line, form, mark-making, overlap and scale drive the paintings.

I chose this process in this place because I felt it would give voice to the intuitive subconscious connection I felt but could not describe.  I felt at home in the pallette of Ireland, the shapes of the fields, the slope of the land.
